{make it} Having fun with Yo-Yos!

Did you know it’s National Yo-Yo Day? While I’m quite sure the day is supposed to be about the yo-yo we played with as a child, I can’t help but think of the little fabric circles when yo-yos are mentioned!

Fabric yo-yos first gained popularity with sewists a hundred years ago, in the early 1900s. Since then they’ve seen several revivals and continued adoration for their versatility and nostalgic charm.

If you are interested in making yo-yos the way your grandmothers (or grandmothers’ grandmothers!) made them, check out Jessica Okui’s How to Sew Fabric Yo-Yos tutorial on Zakka Life blog. If you want to make a bit easier, you can give the Clover Yo-Yo makers a try, following along with Lazy Girl Design’s tutorial for “a perfect yo-yo every time.”
